Missoula Urban Transportation District
Mountain Line, Missoula’s community bus service, is operated by the Missoula Urban Transportation District. Founded in 1976, Mountain Line provides Zero-fare fixed-route, Paratransit, and Senior Van bus service in and around Missoula, helping employees get to work, students get to school, and keeping seniors and those with disabilities active and mobile. By reducing congestion, improving air quality, and providing safe, comfortable, and reliable transportation, Mountain Line improves the quality of life for everyone in our community.
In January 2015, Mountain Line’s Zero-fare began a three-year Zero-fare demonstration project that allows anyone to ride fixed-route, Paratransit, and Senior Van free of charge, thanks to the support of 15 community partners. Mountain Line’s Zero-fare partners include The University of Montana, Associated Students of The University of Montana, City of Missoula, County of Missoula, the Missoula Metropolitan Planning Organization, St. Patrick Hospital, Community Medical Center, Missoula County Public Schools, Missoula Aging Services, Missoula Downtown Association, Missoula Parking Commission, Missoulian, Southgate Mall, Destination Missoula and Homeword, Inc.
Mountain Line operates 12 fixed routes from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. Routes 1 and 2 feature high-frequency BOLT! Service operating every 15 minutes during weekday peak hours. Late Evening Service operates on Routes 1, 2, 6, and 7 until 10pm on weekdays.
All vehicles in Mountain Line’s fleet are ADA compliant and accessible to all users. Mountain Line buses are equipped with free Wi-Fi for passengers. Bus arrival and departure information for more than 200 bus stops is available in real time using any Internet-accessible device at mountainline.com and through the free Mountain Line Transit mobile app available for Droid and Apple smart phones. Mountain Line buses hold up to three bicycles on their front mounted bike racks and bike maintenance facilities are available at the Downtown Transfer Center, Southgate Mall, University of Montana, and on Great Northern Way near North Reserve St. Mountain Line supports multimodal transportation options in the Missoula community and offers educational opportunities throughout the year.
In addition to fixed-route service, Mountain Line operates curb-to-curb Paratransit service for ADA-qualifying individuals and Senior Van service for Missoulians over 60 years of age. These services require pre-approval and applications are available here.
